Keeping up with the gym is a big challenge for many of us. We are all guilty of quitting the gym a few times because it was all just too much trouble.

The stress of finding a suitable gym, getting there almost every day and paying for a membership are some of the most common reasons why people disappear after a few days or weeks. Fortunately, there are other ways to get fit that don't necessarily involve a gym.

So, if you're looking for some ideas to keep you motivated, read on:

Work on your diet

I often hear people say that diet is more important than exercise, and this could be true to an extent. Think about it: if you train every day but eat junk food all week, you'll never get the results you want.

Now is the best time to start planning nutritious meals that will nourish your body. Start by researching some simple, fun recipes that you can stick to, whether your goal is to lose weight, gain weight or maintain a healthy weight.

Take a daily walk

A daily walk may seem insignificant, but it is a real calorie burner. It actually helps to maintain a healthy weight, it could prevent major problems such as heart disease and it helps to strengthen your muscles and bones, to name but a few.

You could plan to walk for an hour five days a week and with enough consistency, you will start to see great results. As your body gets used to walking, you can move on to jogging and running more often.

Doing bodyweight exercises

Bodyweight workouts are like a fitness cheat code. You don't need any extra equipment and you still get a great workout.

There are lots of free workout videos that can teach you the best routines for your fitness level. You can even learn how to do them correctly for maximum effectiveness, which is another benefit.

You'll feel like you're working with a gym instructor without actually paying for one.

Buy some equipment

After a while, your body may get used to bodyweight exercises. When you reach this point, you may not be able to progress any further unless you use some equipment.

You can find some affordable dumbbells, bands and other equipment that can give you better results. Start building your personal home gym with some basic equipment.

Incorporate interesting cardio workouts

Cardio is great for our physical health. It has some amazing health benefits for our joints and bones, it reduces the risk of obesity and it prevents a number of diseases.

The most basic type of cardio we know is walking and jogging, which isn't always fun. Think outside the box and include some fun activities like swimming and cycling in your non-gym routine.

Keeping it fun will help you stay more motivated and healthier throughout your fitness journey.
